Poem from the end of the garden

they shared a kiss
and ate half each
mouths would reach
tongues would hiss

just behind the garden wall
where furtive hands could touch
stood beyond the rabbit hutch
nothing said except it all

if this is love
she tried to say
let it last all the day
all the day, all the day

but her mouth was full
so she basically mumbled
hands grasped, fingers fumbled
until they parted just for air
beneath the rabbit’s silent stare

all the day, all the day
let it last all the day
come what may, she tried to say
let it last all of today
